Coach
Coach: A method of engagement invoked by a person who uses inquiry and stimulating conversation to guide and support a person’s individualized learning and research. A coach leads a person to his or her answers through questions and inquiry, directions, and information and data. It is not mentoring. Coaching excludes participating in actual work task activities, assignments, and project deliverable creation or development.

- Brainstorming to assist with ideation and creative solutioning.
- Meeting briefly to discuss an issue or concern.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on completed assignments, work tasks, or projects.
- Giving guidance on how to find or do something.
- Being a good listener and leading another to his or own solutions to resolve issues and problems.

Mentor
Mentor: A method of engagement invoked by a person who uses situational examples, illustrations, demonstrations, and working sessions to guide and support a person’s individualized learning with a goal of leading to his or her acquired skill development, and performance. A mentor leads another person (mentee) to his or her own success through guided hands-on practice. It goes beyond mere coaching.
Examples
- Performing live demonstrations, tutorials, and other live work activities to provide technical assistance to support a person applying new knowledge in real world context and situations.
- Actively participating or assisting a person to complete live work related to a task, assignment, or project.
- Developing tools and templates to improve a person’s ability to create, develop, and produce their own tools and templates or complete deliverables related to work tasks, assignments, and projects.
- Creating opportunities for a person to demonstrate their abilities, skills, and performance via hands-on practice.
- Being an exemplary leader capable of inspiring others to be exemplars too.

Support
Support: A method of engagement invoked by a person to offer additional help, assistance, or an alternative solution that can include providing a specific service option. Supportive service can be voluntary (free) or compensatory (paid). The intent of support is to provide additional knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure the mentee achieves or attains a desired goal or outcome by devising or providing alternative solutions that can be used to help/aid the client.
Examples
- Offering guidance to provide additional help in a time of need or crisis. (voluntary)
- Proffering additional service options to provide a solution to produce a deliverable or meet a specific need. (compensatory)
- Meeting with mentees, family members, and other trusted advisors or people to resolve a conflict or devise alternative solutions to overcome problems. (voluntary)
- Sell a packaged solution, subscription, plan, or membership to extend or expand service options beyond the entry level. (compensatory)
- Prepare digital documentation, articles, videos, audio recordings, and other media assets to enable self-help and other self-directed learning options.

Train
Train: A solution invoked by a person to deliver formal instructions, immersive learning experiences, and interactive social events that allow the mentee to participate and receive opportunities to co-create and engage with others to compliment other peer mentoring activities.
Examples
- Host a live virtual seminar, webinar, or online event where mentees, family, and trusted advisors can participate and interact together.
- Schedule a 1x1 session or workshop where training can be delivered to mentee(s) either face-to-face, virtually, or online.
- Schedule an online eCourse, eModule, eClass, or other self-directed experience (e.g., demonstration, tutorial, etc.).
- Host a focus group, listening session, or other engagement activity that allows mentees to interact and share via roleplay and live cultural immersion experiences.
